Question

I was reading the first handgun thread and since I don't think many people are gonna go back to that thread I thought I'd put the question here.

In that thread it was mentioned that if you're new to handguns you should get a revolver for the double action (finger off the trigger training) aspect of it. Would this still hold true for someone new to handguns but has handled rifles?

Re: Question

Speaking from personal experience, I'd say "no". I shot rifles for years, before getting a handgun, and I went straight to a Glock 22. No handling problems for me personally.

Edit: I missed the thread you're talking about, but what exactly is meant by "finger off the trigger training"? You're finger should always be off the trigger, until you are sighted in and ready to fire. :dontknow:

Re: Question

The recoil on a handgun (revolver or auto) is different than a rifle. since you're accustomed to shooting a rifle, I would go to a gun range that offers rental pistols and try both a revolver and an auto.

Just remember, if you're going to shoot a revolver for the first time, go with a .38 special as the recoil on a .357 magnum is stout and might discourage you from revolvers.

What I meant is when you'r first learning weapons handling you're not used to keeping your finger off the trigger. Apparently the double action of the revolvers helps somehow. **Shrugs**

Big_rob - I was planning on goin with a glock or something similar for just for the round capacity and the fact that I'm already used to loading magazines into a rifle I figured there wouldn't be as much to get used to. Of course i could be wrong and will probably do what you said :-)

Ah, got it. You can accomplish the same thing with dry fire practice.

No. I've always considered it advice for those that are clueless about firearms in general.
(women, daughters, non-gun buddies, etc.)
