M1A
OK, I broke down and bought one today....
So where's the best place to get cheap ammo for it? |
Re: M1A
Also, does the Wolf/Brown Bear steel-cased rounds work OK in this gun?

http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/308.html It looks like Ammoman.com only has the "high priced spread" at ~$1.60/round. |
Re: M1A
Where in the heck did you find a M1A? They are difficult to find.

Re: M1A
a buck a round heh?
I have 500 rounds of Lake City 2006 new production and no gun. Waiting till they start to go for 2$ a round, or I find a M!A on some guy lying in the street. Better return than gold at 1.80$ each. |
Feeding an M1A
Congratulations on your purchase of one of the only battle rifles NOT to make the latest "ban-list."
IMO Go with the Radway Green for .65 per round. This ammo was specifically designed and produced (in the 1990s) for use in battle rifles. |

Re: M1A
I don't own an M! - but I would recommend looking into proper maintenace of them ...I have read how important it is to grease it up vs oil.....for long term lovin.

This web sight is a great source for all things M1A/M14. You will have to join to access the pages but it is worth it. This link goes directly to their 7.62x51 ammo pricing page. It covers almost all of the on line vendors and allows you to compare prices. It is updated almost daily. Some other things of note if this is your first M1A. The rifle was designed to be lubricated with grease, not oil. Also, you should look into getting some spare bolt guts, ie. extractor, ejector and accompanying springs. The above web site is a great source for all/any questions you will encounter. Good shooting. Oh, BTW, don't count on this type of rifle ducking under any future ban list. I can assure you it will join the rest of them if it should come to that. Bx3 |
Re: M1A
Usury, i've owned a m1a squad scout {18'' barrel} for 7 years now. i've put 500 rounds of wolf 7.62x51 thru it as well as 1000's of surplus and commercial i've been able to get my hands on at a reasonable price. i shot a couple of mags of wolf out to 350 yds offhand at a small silohette target you would get at any indoor range and was making center of mass hits.6-8'' grouping. ran out of time to take longer shots. pretty much rapid fired these. the armory website has wolf for 9.99 per 20rd box or 249 for 500 rd case. i do not know what their shipping is as i am local to them. hope this helps. i doubt you will find anything anywhere cheaper. my rifle is capable of better but i was in a hurry as i was mainly concentrating on taking notes for my bolt gun. oh yeah, hit 44mag.com for cmi mags.good luck w/ ur new toy!

Re: M1A
while wolf is new production russian ammo, it is dirty, some people don't like it, but it does just as well as any of the surplus ammunition that is avail or is drying up out there.

Re: M1A
i got 3 stocks from fred's years ago at $15 per so i could have different furniture for mine. even shortened one so it shouldered nicer. auto/marine roller bearing grease seems to suffice for lube. shopping list growing yet? haha...
