Ak47

I'm thinking instead of a .308 I would get the smaller round ak47. Something not so expensive. Is the bulgarian a good model?

I'm partial to the Norinco MAK-90. The Norinco fit me far better than any other AK I've fired. I really dig the wood stock with thumb hole and the overall wood furniture. Pistol grips don't feel so hot for me unless I hold the weapon somewhere besides my shoulder.

Just my barely on-topic anecdote.

Re: Ak47

Definitely, Bulgarian's can be very nice AK's... I've done business with Atlantic Firearms before and I currently have a few toys from there but my favorite is my Lancaster. It's a Romy G built on an NDS receiver. Around 1k rounds downrange and no hiccups at all, even with HP's.

For power, velocity and price, 762x39 is hard to beat.

Also, remember the AK was designed for combat that was 300 meters and under. They can be very accurate weapons on the battlefield. Much of this has to do with build quality and my Lancaster has impressed me immensely in this regard.

Hope this helps!

I have been thinking of selling my two FAL's and the various magazines, unassembled kit and most importantly, over 2000 rounds of milsurp ammo....

Of course the unopened cases of Port .308 go for over $400 each.

As to the AK, I liked my Sar-2 in 5.45,it was pretty cool.

Platinumdude,

Bulgarian AK-47s are fine quality. I prefer milled receivers--heavier, but more rigid for better accuracy. If you want something to shoot the cheaper 7.62x39 round...look at the Yugo SKSs...solid and more accurate than most any AK.

If you want something accurate to shoot .308, look at an affordable bolt rifle, like the Savage model 10 FP with "Accu-trigger"...

You certainly won't burn up that "expensive" .308 ammo as fast...and easy to handload for.

Curious, what will you replace the FALs with?

I have an AR-15 and hope to buy another.

I like the FAL rifle a lot, however I never shoot either of them(or any of my rifles actually), in fact one has never had a full mag through it by me.

Im very interested in getting a FAL, ive been putting off a gun purchase for a very long time while i debate back and forth between a FAL and other guns.

What are you looking to sell for?

I have two.

One is built on a Century receiver, works fine but some don't like them.It has a 21'' barrel,L1a1 plastic furniture and takes metric mags.
I would want $600+ shipping for that with one 20 round mag.

The other is an Imbel receiver, also an Imbel kit I believe.18'' barrel and I like this one a lot, however haven't shot it more than three times. It also could do with being refinished IF you want it to be nice and shiny.I would want $750 for this.

The two cases of Port .308 would be $425 each + shipping.

I also have a South African kit(might be missing some parts), a few extra stocks, probably close to 15 20 round mags and assorted other stuff.

I'd be interested in swapping an AR-15 for your Imbel FAL provided Heimdhal didn't call first dibs :D

For some reason me and bolt 308s do not do that well together?

Odd ball military bolts with about the same size round and I'm in love.

I would love shooting the rifle you posted and I'm sure I would shoot ok with it.

I just do not seem to bond with 308 bolts:-)

Maybe its just finding the right one for me?

If you're going to go AK, then buy American or Russian made. Saiga 7.62x39s are still cheap, and they will go bang every time. No doubt they are more accurate than the milsurp ones too.. Honestly though, you won't go wrong with any AK... but stay away from WASRs if you can manage it ;)

Did I forget to mention Saiga?

Saigas in 7.62x39 are going for ~$300

Quality AKs...Vector, Lancaster, Bulgarian, Red Jacket, etc. start at about $550-$595, go up from there, and probably won't be getting cheaper anytime soon.

The Bulgarian I was looking at is on a 3 week wait, and I hearthat if it's not in stock don't buy from that Atlantic site. I may look into the Lancaster.

TODAYS RIFLE IS ONE OF OUR POPULAR ROMAINIAN G CODE RIFLES IN THE TACTICAL STOCK CONFIGURATION. THIS IS A REALLY NICE RIFLE AS YOU CAN SEE ABOVE HOWEVER IT WAS BUILT FROM A PARTS SET THAT HAD A LITTLE BLUING WEAR. NO RUST OR PITTING, JUST NOT BLUES AS DEEPLY AS I WOULD LIKE. YOU CAN SEE WHAT I MEAN FROM THE PHOTO ABOVE OF THE GAS TUBE. AT ANY RATE. I HAD BEEN HOLDING THIS RIFLE ASIDE TO DO A DEEP TANK RE-BLUE ON IT, BUT WE ARE INVOLVER IN ANOTHER PROJECT RIGHT NOW AND I DON'T KNOW WHEN WE WILL FIRE UP ANOTHER BLUING TANK SO I HAVE DECIDED TO LET IT GO AS IS AS A DISCOUNT. IT CVOULD BE RE-BLUED OR LEFT AS IS. EITHER WAY IT WON'T AFFECT THE FUNCTION. COMPLETE WITH 1 30 ROUND MAG... THIS IS A GREAT CHANCE TO GET A SWEET DEAL ON A NICE AK RIFLE.....ASK FOR SER # 3010827.....399.95

Re: Ak47

People talk some shit about Romanian WASRs, but they are cheaper and just as reliable (though not as accurate as some of the higher end makers, they would be a fine weapon in post all combat situations ). If you have a dremel, you can buy a new single-stack WASR, and open up the magwell to take a regular AK mag. http://www.centerfiresystems.com/AKAGUN01.aspx

Also, buy as much 7.62x39 (Wolf ammo has always been excellent in my experience in this caliber) as you can reasonably afford, and always try to MORE than replace what you shoot. I have never seen ammo go down in price, but see them go up far more than I'd like. Fortunately, 7.62 is relatively cheap (not sure how much .308 cost.. but I'm sure its more than 7.62).

I bought one of these right before Klintons' gun ban and have loved it ever since...I dumped the thumbhole along time ago and it shakes like a loose rattle trap but it's never misfired once and it's fairly accurate.I'd say buy one of these if you can find one.

I think I might take a look at both the Bulgarian Aresenal (made in the U.S) and Lancaster(made in the US). Any opinions on those?

You should be fine with either...lifetime warranty on the Lancaster

More AK discussion here:http://www.ar15.com/forums/board.html?b=4

Before you buy, take a few different types of AK-47 mags with you if you can (ie. Russian or European steel, Bulgarian polymer waffle, Yugoslavian 20-rounders, etc), and try them for fit...should have very little, if any front-to-back play and maybe a little side-to-side.

Every AK-47 I have seen go's bang every time you pull the trigger.Of course some are better quality than others but all of them are a very nasty weapon.
The one I happen to have is a Hungarian SA-85M. It is on the list of things I really don't want anybody ever shooting at me.
