ATF

The ATF has increased its focus on gunrunning and aiding Mexican authorities as violence involving drug cartels has escalated.
More worried about helping Mexico than our own citizens.... More of the same.

I'm suspicious of the real motive.

Re: ATF

Mexico already has an armed (drug) military force. Cantarel (sp?) is depleting and the people aren't shipping money from US like they used to. They are the country nearest us with the most recent revolution.
At what point do the cartels morph into a political entity with a stated goal of overturning Mexico's current regime? As I recall, their last election for president certainly wasn't a smooth evolution.
The people aren't exactly getting protection from the guv.

Gee whiz, if we could cut back on all the drug smuggling, maybe these guys would not have the money to buy guns...:thumb.aspx:

Very astute point! It didn't happen in Columbia, although there was a government that was resposive to Cartel needs. Mexico is a very different situation. I think it could happen, considering the state of Mexico's economic situation.
