property

may be this is not the right thread?

I'm going on a road trip looking for a bug out property ....and setting up an "off grid" property.....I am heading up to Montana to have a look then across to Vermont,New Hampshire?......are there any other states that are recommended?...has to have gun rights, pref high ratio of Ron paul Constitution types....land will need to be able to run dry stock ,some dairy, hunting is desirable as well as trout fishing and i need to be relitively close to yacht if possible......i like the four seasons but coming from an old nz farming family am not used to farming in winter snow conditions ......

hell maybe ill just head home back to socialist nwo loving braindead kiwi land...but dame i love the constitution and am staying as long as there is still hope .....
came here to design and build yachts ....never thought americans did not want to be themselves.....ultimately you get what you wish for..if not thinking and apathy is the goal...well the chip will be available....it will be your ultimate expression of the void......free will is the bottom line....

anyway property size anywhere from 50 -150 acres....

a small town with a book shop and sention thinking beings and freindly real people would be a bonus as well......

maybe i start building wooden yachts again....

i like virginia ...esp around the area of Thomas Jeffersons home...but Virginia has tight gun laws ...and the coppers are nazis ..aren't they? being so close to the District of Columnbia....around york town close to the water?.....

just tryying to get a feel for things and details in each area before my road trip

Thanks

TJ

Ow, ow--if you are adverse to farming in winter snow conditions, don't even go to Montana! Growing season very short (views are great), but makes Nebraska look downright tropical. Skip Montana and consider the Carolinas, and Kentucky. We have 130 acres of undeveloped in KY.

just came back from Alaska looking around for same reason fullpower...beautiful esp south of out towards seaward ...of course i saw buggerall but ..its too cold for me ..and the weather was "mild " while i was up there....only ten below celcius!!..i liked the hunting aspects..but too many military types & govt employees who will shoot constitution lovers when the shtf and i must say unfortunately too many people i ran into were apathetic and had no idea about the nwo and the upcoming and unfolding problems....

hunting and fishing --great but just too cold for me..perhaps i needed to look at other areas?...the sailing would be fantastic )at least scenery wise ..but you would freeze your arse off ...

or did i get a wrong piture of Alaska FP?...afterall i was only up there looking around for a week..
wolud you suggest diff areas??

send some pics...

do you want to give a quick "rundown" on the different counties in KY and the carolinas Relleia?...Carolinas look beautiful..i have never been to Kentucky...hasn't it got great duck shooting?....
gun laws?..how many people care about the constitution and ...yeah ..i have no experience in farming in extreme conditions.....montana looks beautiful...but i was looking at the employment stats and most people there are employed in tourism..so it is going to get hit really hard up there with so many unemployed....

my main joys in life are great freinds reading, yachting and buliding yachts and houses (one off designs)...fly fishing and duck ,pheasant and quail shooting...must say at this point i am sometimes tempted to head back to nz..and stick my head in the sand...but i love America...what pisses me off is so many Americans don't ...at least here in LA..but LA is full of self loathing Arseholes who have bought into living a fake life.......obviously the sailing in the proff world is here on the west coast ...but my life is seeking more meaning now....anyway don't want to ramble....

i think Americans have something to fight for...back in NZ....most people are totally dependant on the govt and have nothing that unifes there spirit of freedom like the Constitution......& kiwis are extremely self centered and totally ignorant..so i am staying right to the wire....freedom Liberty and Life ..being an individual in ones self is what is at stake here ..there is no grey area ..you are either a free man or you are not...

Carolina....maybe this road trip will become an expedition...maybe i should YouTube it...?

TJ, working on a freely/powered yacht design, actually trimarran, kinda like the manphibian's in Waterworld {40X30ft.}. Large central berth with power and windwheel conversion drive, giving way to an optional sail off main mast. Outer pods for storage and water/ballast. small area on crows nest for garden {lol}...

Yatchs? WA is the place for you it sounds like. Mild winters - plenty of water - constitution state - cept for Seattle BS. Land ain't cheap though - cept maybe in the rainforest of the penninsula.

You may want to consider "da UP eh?" Michigan's northern peninsula is good for grassland farming and hunting and fishing. Surrounded by the great lakes you can bug out at any time for warmer climes and salty dog days by either the water way that travels through the heartland or by going east thruogh the great lakes to the east coast.

I used to work for Four Winns in Cadillac, Mi. Probably nothing like what you design, but we had some nice cruisers.

Are you serious? Wow, I didn't know that either. I always had this image of Alaska having lots of freedom-loving libertarian constitutionalist types. I am so sorry to hear this :(

I too am searching for the ideal location, the kind of bug-out property I can live on permanently year-round and retire on. My preference so far has been the northwest corner of Montana, far north Idaho, or panhandle Alaska, which is warmer than further north.

For work, I would have to live close to a hi-traffic airport however. I would also have to have high speed internet (most likely satellite) and access to a at least somewhat of a major airport with daily frequent flights nationwide. Kalispell has a couple flights, but not as much as I need. Spokane has more, but Seattle seems to be the biggest hub. I am speculating if I got a log cabin in the mountains either east of Seattle or east of Spokane, maybe an hour drive from the airport, I could probably pull it off. But would an hour's drive to the mountains east of Spokane be remote enough??

As for New England and the Confederate states, although they have a proud history, I am too deterred by their current heavy population. I prefer the idea of once you leave a big city, such as Seattle or a smaller one like Spokane, you're in remote wilderness for a very long time. The states in the NW are just huge and very low population. The states in NE (VT and NH) are so very small and so close to the enormous east coast population.

Although the northern states would have an extremely short growing season, on the flip side there would be more game than people. Whereas in the south, I'd be afriad all the game would be depleted in just a couple weeks, if not a few days.

Despite we need both veggies and meat, if I was forced to choose one over the other, I'd rather have more game than veggies, as opposed to more veggies to game. You can always supplement with vitiman & mineral pills. Plus protein meat (not supplemental protein shakes) stabilizes my blood sugar levels. I would be in trouble without it.

As for the cold, I never need the air conditioner even when it's 90-100F (unless it's humid - the humidity I can't take well). I love the summer's warm weather, I love heat in the 70-80 F range. I freeze easily when it gets to below 60 F. So I would have to find a way to deal with that.

willamette valley in oregon, or coastal oregon. around latitude 60 in alaska not bad either. depends what you want to farm, always had a garden in ak, near portland for now, the dairy farmers do ok out by tillamook on the oregon coast. some nice little harbors along there for the boatbuilding idea.

I was going to highly recommend going north of Spokane rather than east. East is CdA, touristy town that's getting a bit cluttered. North of Spokane is wide open all the way to the Canadian border. Lots of lakes and rivers, abundant game, few people. The biggest town north of here is Coleville with a population of 5000+/-, a two-hour drive away. Or Newport (one hour northeast) with a population of 2500. Both are nice little towns -- although with the Idaho border and the Pend Orielle river running right through the middle of town, I like Newport best. I said I "was going to recommend" because if 60 degrees is your idea of cold I can only suggest that you stick with Florida or California. This area ain't for sissies, especially in the winter.:signs14:

I'll have to second that post concerning MT. I love MT, but if you don't like winter, then Big Sky Country isn't for you.

Also, 50+ acres even close to accessible water.....I hope you plan on spending some money.

Good luck in your search.

Issue #1 for me is carry permit:

start here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No-issue#No-issue

Issue #2 is State Income Tax:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._wages.svg.png

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...nal_income_tax

These are the states that I have to chose from when considering a relocation. South Dakota is the home of the true Patriots.

Lt Dan 11-07-2008 07:39 AM

Re: property

Waylon, that actually leaves 4 states close to coastal water; FL, TX, WA & Alaska. NH is too close to Boston and believe me, you want to stay clear of those. TN would be Ideal if lakes would satisfy. I'm thinking especially eastern mountain areas for trout and hunting areas.

I'm in south central OH and while I'm not close too any major water way or Lake Erie, the walleye fishing is major to trout as our small water ways and lakes are too warm for trout. You have to go further north up to Lake Erie area near Port Clinton.

Here's the thing about taxes though. The lower the income tax the higher other taxes seem to be. You also have to look at property tax, use taxes (licenses), sales tax, etc. State and local taxes are sometimes offset by high tourist taxes - gas, motel and so on. Case in point, I often vacation in FL. When I go I usually pack a fishing rod. The tax for a non-resident 3 day license is like $15, while residents can fish free in the same location.

So there are many other things to look at about taxes then just the income angle.

Sorry so tardy; I got wrapped up in the elections and didn't notice this thread for a few days.

Kentucky gun laws: I found a site with a sample page from a book describing gun laws in various states

http://www.gunlawguide.com/Kentucky.htm

State income, sales, and property tax, plus can look up other states:

http://www.bankrate.com/brm/itax/edi...y.asp?caret=1e

I don't know too much about the hunting there, except that my brother-in-law goes up there to deer hunt. I found a website on Kentucky hunting that should give you a good feel for it : http://www.kentuckyhunting.net/forums/index.php

I don't know much about the counties in Kentucky--I've only lived in Nebraska, Massachusetts, and overseas. Our land is located near Lake Cumberland http://www.lakecumberland.com/

I just got our property tax bill today. Two hundred bucks for our 126 acres of undeveloped agricultural. Our property tax bill here for our measly 11 acres and a small house is over $4000 a year. Something is seriously wrong.

When last I checked wind and solar power generation possibilities for that region weren't terribly great, if off-grid power generation is something that you are considering then I can dig out that research. I have it in a three-ring binder.

I actually prefered the old days before the limelite....thats why i am thinking of designing and building wooden yachts again...for the love of it...

but please your design and yacht sounds extemelly interesting

The smaller Yachts are more fun....the bigger the money the bigger the Arseholes generally you have to deal with....i started out did a boat bulding apprentiship & as you would know there is not alot of "glamour" i have done enough sanding for a life time ..but i was in the right spot at the right time with Peter blake and a small group..then i did a drafting cert then Degree in Architecture....its been interesting to say the least...at least it was early on..the public can get real ugly....now the whole thing is purely about money ,not the beauty of sailing and design....i have had enough of it...thats why alot us at the top end of it are breaking away and designing ourselves ..i am concidering building wooden yachts.....for the real beauty if the craft ....

anyway ....please put up some pics

Yes Alaska..i was dismayed by the overall types of attitudes and complete ignorance of what is playing out....but i soon could see that the extreme cold combine with dark winters has resulted in a massive alcohol and drug induced tv addicted culture ....there is obviously a few people who have gone off the grid up there...but the extremes in cold and weather are unforgiving...& Alaska is flown over by govt employed "rangers"..who are environmental police types..they are the types who think a tree has more rights than a human being....and the place is swarming with military morons.....i have crossed it of my list..but i am sure you can go completly off grid up there....the intense cold was not for me....but then i have already decided that even though i am moving rural,i am also going to stand up and fight the NWO and I am going to continue to try and wake others up and grow the liberty movement...these NWO scum are going down!!

Very interesting comments..i have to agree with being in a remote location..but also i absoluely believe that getting to know the community you are shifting to and forming a close group of awake liberty constitution types is the most important thing...being remote also brings with it inherant problems of being a target...

also if you read Agenda 21 out of the UN..this property maintenance code is to be used to tax and drive the rural folk off their land...Obama is already talking about the cap & trade of carbon credits controlling every aspect of our lives....

You have said many things that i am pondering ... my concern is being so close to cities as well ..but a wonder if city dwellers will have the "no how" to even consider heading much beyond the city limits..i do wonder if they will just continue to protest and look to the govt to "provide them with relief"

glass houses provide the means really to grow veges etc in most conditions...

if things get really bad....a good glass of whisky and a sure shot standing tall with like minded freedom lovers will be the cross roads..if that does not win through ..well ..can you imagine when the parasites only have the govt to beg to??....

Paradise valley Montana is gorgeous and has a more moderate climate because its in a valley. It also houses quite a few survivalist groups. The people there don't like Government interference. I spent quite a bit of time there but never in the cold weather. Housing and land prices have dropped there like everywhere else. If I were looking to live in an unpopulated area and didn't mind colder temperatures this would be my choice... It is remote area but the towns of Bozeman and Livingston are not far away.

TJ, Thanks for befriending me. Ohio is not the best state for what you are looking for, but Lake Erie does offer a lot (in season) for sailing. MI is not far off for better trout fishing. As for boat building, I can't say how that would work, especially for sail boats. However there are sailing regattas every summer. The growing season is quite long, but the wind can be bad (tornadoes) and they can get a lot of snow too. The winters are usually mild in my part of the state. I'm also not sure how real estate prices are. We do have sales tax, property tax, income tax and sometimes local city or school district income tax, plus all the usual user taxes.

BTW, I've always wanted to build my own sailboat (under 26') or even just own one, LOL, I have a wife instead of some of the toys I'd like. About the largest boat building project I can envision is a wood strip canoe.

Geez-o-pete Avalon, $500K for 70 acres plus cold, and snow? E-gads!

Solar and wind power should be doable, but what actually might a person run into for water rights out there? No ocean or large Erie sized lakes either.

The fact of no large body of water is something I regret more than any other issue where I'm located. It took me about 5 years of being a land locked sailor to realize my loss, now I'm old and not even considering relocating. Homesteading on 15 acres with woods and water close enough for day trips is the best it gets for me. Add to that the occasional trip to Florida for the ocean and I get by.

Fort Perry and the CMP are only 167 miles to the north. We enjoy a trip or two up there a year. My wife says, she'd like to work on one of the ferries to the islands just for the ride on the water. Get her out in my fishing boat and stick a rod in her hands and she turns into an instant 2 year old. Not a happy camper.:10_1_19:

Bottom line, It's hard to live anywhere and not run into some issues with too many people and/or too much government regulations. Now the NWO government system is trying to turn the US into them. I'm not ready to :Surrender: yet!

Re: property

Tennessee and Missouri seem to have good soil/climate for substistance farming. Tennessee would probably be more libertarian.

I've chosen Wisconsin in spite of their horrible gun laws and long winters. My family and my wife's family are all there, and I think those relationships will be more strategic than firearms. I've found the parcel (5 acres), and I'm going to be making the deal over Thanksgiving. Hopefully break ground in May of 2009.

those triplet fawns are beautiful....might be a bit difficult to get a finished yacht out of there though!!...

beautiful outlook and no other visible homes at the moment....

one of my fav movies is A river runs through it...the blackfoot River ..where is that from "paradise valley".....

Thankyou again i am going to l show my wife and buddies..

Could you imagine kiwi Yacht designer designing and building in Montana!!!....I like the idea ....that yellowstone River looks alittle shallow though for yachts!!....

TJ

You asked Avalon, but yes, you can fish in Yellowstone park, but there are special regulation -- not sure now, possibly catch and release. As for the river and other areas on public land see the state or tribal laws for permits and regulations.

If you've never been to that area, take the time and go. I looked for a place in WY, but soon decided the move would be more than my budget at the time would handle.

Google "free state" for some interesting information, if you haven't already.

Re: property

Thomas Jefferson and LT Dan.. there are large bodies of water. You just cant see them in the pics. The Yellowstone river runs right down the middle of that region. Also there is Yellowstone Lake right on the top of Yellowstone Park. I do realize the altitude is a little high and the lake probably keeps the caldera from exploding but it very scenic, clean and beautiful once you get used to breathing up that high..

The property in the video was not mine but my sisters property was located nearby. She just had a few acres.. I know property values fell because they were having a tough time moving houses a few years ago. Probably because Paradise Valley has become out of touch with the other parts of the State because so many survivalist groups, movie stars and resort areas have moved in.. There are good deals in other areas of Montana...

I guess there is not much call for yacht building in Montana but rafts and fly fishing boats are popular..

It really is a great area for people interested in survival. My sisters neighbors had a bomb shelter that could house thirty families. The people in that area are very much geared to survival and bartering systems. I was surprised I liked it so much because I am so used to everything being green. Once you get used to the open sky and the rocky terrain its quite magnificent.

Have you considered the Ozarks? SW Missouri is very affordable, has some beautiful lakes and over in the counties of Douglas and Ozark, many like minded folks.

The Ozarks unfortunately aren't the best suited for solar though.

Property can still be had for $2k per acre. Taxes on our 60 acres (just paid the bill) was $18.

Thankyou Waylon

....what are the yellow colours meaning?
Gun rights are right up there with me too......

world heritage parks are apparently no fly zones....so that would mean less exposure to chemtrails ......

Has anyone got a copy of the habitat areas they have planned to push people into?

Those colors are related to taxes, click the link he provided. BTW, I wondered the same thing.

Thanks again
Waylon and LT............So New hampshire is on your list.....but Vermont has graet gun rights(the best in the Nation)

New Hampshire limit their state income taxes to dividends and interest income only
New Hampshire – has an Interest and Dividends Tax of 5%, and a Business Profits Tax of 8.5%
Five states have no sales tax -- Alaska, Montana, Delaware, New Hampshire and Oregon

but why not vermont......the tax issue....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermont

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Rtc.gif

hmmmm I am starting to look at New Hampshire......or too close to did someone say Boston?....
Anomalous Open Carry States - In these states, open carry is generally lawful, but the state may lack preemption or there may be other significant restrictions and New hampshire is anomalous?...In 2007, Manchester, New Hampshire resident Dave Ridley was stopped and questioned by New Hampshire state police for open carrying while walking along a sidewalk.[6] The situation was resolved without incident after Manchester city police arrived and discussed the situation with the state police officer. Ridley has subsequently organized several "Open carry litter pickups" in order to raise awareness...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Carry

so NH looks good for gun rights(not as good as Vermont) but NH has lower tax?......

Re: property

Just a little story on NH. I promise to cut it as short as I can.

We've taken two vacations to the beautiful state of Maine over the years. The first was a car trip and we breezed right on through NH both ways. Only thing that I remember shocking us was how early the sun came up in June. Lots of sail boats to drool over though.

The second trip we made was with a camper. We took more time and looked around more that time and were prepared for the the early sunshine by going to bed earlier. Didn't help much as not much was opened at 4 AM.

Maine was everything we hoped it to be and more as I love the coast up there. However, we left Maine in the afternoon expecting to pull into a campsite in NH. We watched the signs for a place and found what sounded to be ideal. The road into this "camp" was anything but what we expected, but we went anyway. What we found was what we'll always remember as a pirate camp. It was not well kept, we stayed anyway. They had a pool, we went for a swim. The old guy (pirate camp owner) stared at my wife until it even made me uncomfortable. We went back to the camper and changed into dry clothes and decided to walk about some. The camp was located in the woods, but it overlooked a quite cove with, you guessed it, a large sailing boat (yacht?), not a square rigger, but not a neat slick sailer either. We called it the pirate ship. I wanted to talk to the old pirate about it and even see if someone could let us look at it, but my wife strongly opposed that plan. So we just hiked around instead.

This "camp" seemed to have a lot of campers that looked like permanent homes to family and extended friends, (fellow pirates, no doubt). At one campsite there was an old Cleveland, Ohio city police motorcycle with the city tag still on it. There were all sorts of seedy looking folks, kind of put me in mind of "Deliverance" with all the junker cars setting around too.

Another thing, New England has a culture all their own. One it takes some getting used to for outsiders.

Anyway, to cut it off now, we thanked God it got light so early so we could get up at 4 AM and head on down the pike and get through Boston before the morning rush.

Income taxes are so important to me because the rest are in most ways voluntary. There are many ways around sales taxes (which is the largest Tennessee tax). Also, many of the other taxes are voluntary in a sense that if you don't want a high property tax or auto tax you can just own a home that is not as large or in a more rural (lower value land) setting or just own only a couple of autos (or only keep a couple registered at any given time). In my job, the income tax is the only tax I can't reduce or eliminate since I can't do the work I do for cash.

Tennessee's total tax burden is low and even lower per capita.

We also have a state level balanced budget amendment so that we don't get into the debt problems many state governments do (as well as the federal government).

Also, there are many nice lakes in East Tennessee. If you want to go thru a few locks, you can ride the Tennessee River all the way to the Gulf of Mexico (via the Ohio & Mississippi).

We are looking at the following:

Oklahoma...yeah I know but it actually has green parts, hilly parts and trees....Stay on the eastern side of the state.VERY rural, very conservative,VERY gun friendly.Cheap land and low taxes.

Kentucky. We are actually going there this weekend to look at a property.Rural, conservative, beautiful country.quite reasonable pricewise.Mainly looking in the southern/eastern parts of the state.

Tennessee, have family in middle TN,again beautiful country, rural although has some larger cities....

Arkansas...little knowledge but seems to suit our plans/goals....

Missouri...another state we have little actual knoweldge but it looks to suit our wants.

The carolinas are nice enough, quite crowded now with transplants as well.

Never been all that found of N.H. people. Seems like some what of a police state?

N. Vermont is very nice. Taxes $uck. State Cops used to $uck but last time there with everyone armed. The cops they were not even pulling over speeders.

N.Maine is ok. Maine is not business friendly. Its like the police chiefs, town managers set around all day thinking of ways to put off people that would bring in jobs.

I guess it might hurt the judges drug business and there would be less people in jail. So less cop types. Less tax free money for the judges?

I believe N.Maine might be better than the above? Some state its like stepping back in time.

Maine is famous for building boats so that could be good for you?

It take balls to live North of Bangor.

There is a county near coast that you could do ok in, its a little inland and near Rockland and Camden.

I love Camden and try to take as many trips as possible there every year. I love the Clipper ships.

I'm sure there are some very powerful elites in and around Camden. I just love the views, enjoying the boats, food and good friends.

A farm inland from this area could be had, last time I looked.

If I knew how to post pictures I would.

What are you talking about? Virginia has excellent gun laws...we can own anything Class III we want, and have shall-issue CCW's as well as reciprocity with a lot of states. Virginia is high on the list of gun-friendly states.

Those speeding ticket issues have already been reversed by the VA legislature. I don't pay much attention to what states vote for whom...who cares? I don't believe the election data.

In VA, anything over 80mph is reckless driving and mandatory jail time plus a huge fine. That's just one of the things that drives me crazy about it. Since I got slammed and persecuted for a speed that is completely normal in my area, I hate that state. Fair enough?

Thanx for telling me this. I will avoid that state like the plague on my travels as well. I bet real criminals get a hand slap. Jail time for speeding ... psst!

Quote:

Driving as little as 15 MPH over the limit on an interstate highway now brings six license demerit points, a fine of up to $2500, up to one year in jail, and a new mandatory $1050 tax. The law also imposes an additional annual fee of up to $100 if a prior conviction leaves the motorist with a balance of eight demerit points, plus $75 for each additional point (up to $700 a year). The conviction in this example remains on the record for five years.

Holy shiite! I mean really. Holy friggin shiite!!!!

Just got back from Kentucky yesterday afternoon...saw some very nice places(and some not so nice...) but not the 'one'.

If someone was looking for a place to go hide out and be Daniel Boone, there were some interesting listings we found...

Our plans are to produce as much of our own food as possible,to live away from others and have as little interaction with modern society.

Found one place thet unfortunately we were unable to see due to time constraints, however while not on a lot of land(I have a land baron complex...) it did all this.

http://www.unitedcountry.com/Search0...0485&AU=N&FT=P

We received good news last night, the woman who came and looked at our house is wanting to buy it,if this happens we will be in a much better position to make the leap.
