I think Rawles is questionable. His books 000 and patriots etc are a fantasy wet-dream, and the blog is similarly guided.

He made a business in the `90's out of selling firearms with pre-1900 serial #s so buyers could be exempted from compliance with the Gun Control Act of 1968. The junk he sold had steep prices and he profited from the paranoia and fears of those too simple-minded to consider why they were buying ancient and obsolete junk if their concerns were valid.

Maybe some see him as "filling a need"? I think the guy is a scammer and did the gun community a disservice by shipping "exempt" weaponry interstate to persons whose main goal was circumventing the law. That whole deal is rotten.

Guns have a small but vital part to play in Self-Sufficiency.
Staying out of defensive situations is about the most important thing you can do to increase your odds of maintaining self and family. Most guys who fancy themselves to be "survivalists" are just gear collectors, maybe trained at Gunsite or ThunderRanch, but not able to grow a tomato or potato. Oh yeah, they have buckets of that shit freeze-dried food which seemed like a good "investment". NOT!

Not is what most survivalists have in the way of essential skills. They are not nutritionally motivated, they do not know herbal medicine and homeopathics, they do NOT know gardening, trapping, or have skills for machine shop or electrical cannibalizing.

The "survivalist" who has the expensive 4x4, and lots of guns; but little else has sold themselves and their family way short. Guns are great tools IF you live in the area to use them often. That matched set of his n' her HummVees won't be worth much when there is no gasoline to run them on. An old junk schoolbus would've been a better deal; save you $60K plus and carries 2 or 3 tons of gear.

Rawles is just another BS artist, like George Ure who saw PT Barnum was right.
