SurvivalRealty.com
From the editors of survivalblog.com:
"Welcome to the Internet's only website dedicated to finding survival retreat properties. This site is unique because it will feature properties from all around the world that are ideal for safe havens in turbulent times. Yes, many of them are in scenic locales and are also fun places to live. But much more importantly, they are safe places to live. Most of these regions have low crime rates, plentiful water, low population density, favorable tax and investment laws, individual liberty, and economic self-sufficiency. Each SurvivalRealty.com advertiser is carefully screened. This way you will not only be dealing with reputable sellers and agents, but you will also see only listings for properties that are truly suitable for survival retreats. Advertisers with individual listings must complete a detailed profile on each of their properties and justify why they would make good survival retreats. Each of these listings is personally reviewed by James Wesley Rawles, the editor of SurvivalBlog.com, and the author of the book "Rawles on Retreats and Relocation." Jim is a recognized expert on survival and preparedness topics. He is an author, lecturer, blogger, and survival retreat consultant. Why visit this site and not others? Time. Your time is valuable. If you wander around the Internet looking at real estate ads, you will find that more than 99% of them would not be suitable for survival retreats. Take just a few minutes to look at some of the properties featured here. You'll immediately see why they've received a seal of approval from Jim Rawles." http://www.survivalrealty.com/ Some real nice Idaho properties there right now! |
Re: SurvivalRealty.com
I think this is a great idea and resource as long as you're willing to put up with at least one big drawback:
You will be buying land listed on the internet as a survival retreat. Anyone interested in knowing where a property likely owned by survivalists, stockpiled with weapons and supplies, can add these to thier list. Information on the site includes aerial photos and a "retreat analysis" which can consist of things like setup, resources, and tactical or defensive features. Depending on how paraniod you are, owning these properties might be a great resource, or a great liability. |
Re: SurvivalRealty.com
Thanks for the link. I agree, those Idaho retreats are very tempting. Just a bit over my budget though.:hissyfit_m:

Re: SurvivalRealty.com
In the past year the survivalblog.com guy quit his day job and is now just shilling for his paying advertisers. Shill.
:508: I advise all my clients to buy only the shit that is advertised on this website. Everything else is not worth testing nor considering for my Endorsement! Send me ten cents per day or I will need to go back working for a living...like you. |

The area's around Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry, ID are nice. You can still find properties for appx. 5 to 10k per acre, with the bigger acreages going for the cheapest per acre pricing. If you surf to http://911sandpointrealestate.com/ and click "jump right in", the page will open into the local MLS search engine. You can research properties with homes already standing or vacant land by price and size. Your research can save you significant $$. Also, a local non-MLS place is http://www.rvrmtn.com/ . They too, have some interesting places. My advice is to look for a larger place (8+ acres) that already has a well. Get a place thats heavily treed and maybe do a little logging. With the right timber stands (white pine & cedar), you can make some good $$ without clear-cutting the place. Septics run about $2100.00 up here. Oh, and don't rule out WA in the area's N of Newport, WA. Metaline Falls, WA is the area where they filmed the final stand-off scenes in the Costner movie, "The Postman". The area N of Cusick/Usk, WA and S of Ione, WA is where I'd look if I was interested in WA, BUT out-priced by ID. |

Re: SurvivalRealty.com
I have no problem whatsoever with what Rawles provides, His blog is a good source for leads and info. But like anything else on the Web, you're a fool if it's your only source, or the last word. It's a jumping off point--as is every other website, including GIM.
Remember, Kahlil, everyone is a shill for something. |

Re: SurvivalRealty.com
:rolleyes_m: Slightly overpriced...unfortunately not safe enough.
The good stuff is still cheap in South America. 45 acre farm with 1/2 mile of private river front and 1800 sq ft. home with swimming pool only $160,000.00 USD. And the best part...no stinking property taxes !!! It's located in a permanent tax free zone of Chile :>) Patagonia,Chile...prices I can live with. If TSHTF I'm not coming back anyway...so adiós amigos. Besides, they have some gnarly whitewater kayaking down there. Sounds like a good place to be if things get REAL BAD :>) :D:D:D:D |
