Spend the day knocking holes in the bedroom ceiling for new lights, getting ready to put up new sheetrock tomorrow.

Supper was the highlight of the day.....roast pork, green beans, mashed potatoes, applesauce, slice of fresh greenhouse tomato.....all raised on this place.

Merry Christmas to all !

Since I don't observe Christmas anymore I spent the day doing preps.

Put away 100lbs rice, 100 lbs lentils and 150 lbs split pea, 50lbs sugar and 36lbs of elbow macaroni. I'm gonna store it in the basement of the church I go to back where people won't see it much.

I got all the buckets for free from the local bakery. I'm actually impressed with them. They are 90 mil buckets. Only 3 1/2 gallons though but that does make them lighter.

I'd rather do this with my tithe than give the money to the church.

sb

Total price

Rice $33 16/50lb
Lentils $92 .92/lb
Split pea $108 .72/lb
Sugar $26 13/25lb
Elbow mac $29 4.82/6lb bag

CO2 $8

Total 296 plus tax $319

Tn...Andy, please bring us up to date on your greenhouse tomatoes grown in 5 gallon buckets project. That was something new for you when you posted the pics some time back. Like I said before I haven't managed to grow a decent tomato in a patio container yet. If you've been successful, I'd love to know the variety and any other details you think are pertinent.

Merlin, thanks for your confession. My tomatoes have been very lack-luster too; despite years of trying.

Granted we'll never be able to do a hothouse here, but a summer tomato would be great!

Here's what helped mine: adding approx 25% red clay. Lots of lime in the clay naturally was what I was told and it worked.

Just mix some aged poop in with your soil.... Also add some sea kelp!

Chicken poop, mixed with water and aged for
a few weeks, will help grow almost anything!!

I ran a batch of apples and bananas through my new food dehydrator. Best Christmas gift I've gotten in years!
