Masks
Howdy all, I am looking to purchase some masks. I am looking for something that would.
1. Help with a potential disease outbreak 2. Filter out nuclear fallout. I have seen many references to the standard "N95" mask. Does anyone have any feedback, recommendations, etc? Thanks |

Viruses theoretically could slip right through the pores of an N95 mask, but they typically hitch a ride on something, usually hands. So, I think N95 masks could be very useful in an epidemic by keeping a person's hands from inadvertently touching their nose and mouth. Dunno about fallout. Guessing something that works would look like an astronaut's space suit with a self contained air supply. For very a short term emergency a cartridge type respirator or cannister gas mask might help. I use cartridge type resipirators occasionally, and keep extra, new ones with gas/vapor cartridges around. I once poured straight bleach and later straight muriatic acid on a terrazzo shower pan to remove really deep stains. The acid removed the stains alright, and much of the terrazzo too! Left it very rough with wide, deep sharp pits, no way to stand on it with bare feet. Refinished it with a layer of grout. Worked great and now it's a non-slip surface. I lived to the tell the tale, because I wore a respirator with appropriate cartridges for that lil project. dtnwn |
Re: Masks
not an expert but i guess fallout being of a particulate nature is fairly easily
protected against with even simple disposable dust masks provided they are correctly used. |
