Comfrey
I just had a chance to get some Comfrey from someone's garden and so I googled it to see what it is all about. Wow! Seems like some kind of magic elixar almost... Seems likely to cure what ails you, no matter what it is, from broken bones to ulcers to female problems. Very interesting stuff. Then I read that it might be bad for your liver. Does anyone have any experience growing/using this stuff?
I also want it because it sounds like incredible fertilizer/compost material. Seems like it might be a worthwhile plant to have around when TSHTF. |
Re: Comfrey
We've a large Comfrey patch in a DESIGNATED AREA This plant will spread!
Goats, chickens, rabbits thrive on it.You can cut it back and it will grow back rapidly thru the season. I read a report that it does have potential to cause liver problems in humans if taken internally, externally I've used the root and leaves as a poultice on cuts. I think it does speed up the healing, don't use on infected wounds or puncture wounds. |
Re: Comfrey
Be careful where you plant it! It spreads like crazy and you can't stop it! It spread into our compost pile, when you use the compost into your garden you will also be planting the comfrey. It only takes a tiny broken piece of the root to propagate the plant. If I had it to do over again, I would not plant it in or near any garden!. We use herbs often, there are many great uses for various herbs, be careful using or planting this plant, it is a nuesince and you will probably despise it and wish you never planted it.

Re: Comfrey
It will only cause liver problems if you ingest it every day for months on end. As with anything its all in moderation. ;0)

Re: Comfrey
can vouch for it as a fertiliser, very rich in nitrogen, i think. a leaf or 2 put in when you plant a humble potato will do good things.
