Candles

Does anyone know of a good place to buy bulk lots of candles? I don't have the money to go off the grid, but I could afford a several weeks supply of candles.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

They're actually not very hard to make and the quality is higher. If you are interested, once you make a few batches, you can actually sell them at 2-3x markup and make a little pocketchange.

This won't help you now, but after x-mas Wally World put their $3.00 X-mas candles on sale for .75, or something like that. They do this every year.

Candles are an excellent survival tool and will literally last forever.

BINGO! We hae a winner!

If you don't like their scent or shape, you can make them into anything you want. They make the garage smell soooo good too.

Ok... I'll bite - any system or method you specifically recommend?

I buy candles at garage sales for nothing. Take a coffee can and put a pc. of cardboard rolled into a spiral in the center (the same height as the can). Then melt the candles into one brew. Pour into the coffee can around the cardboard and let sit.

Works great. Actually, a little too great. You can't blow it out. You have to smother it. But it's our back up, to the back up, to the back up. ...just in case.

I have pics with instructions at home. I can post if you want.

My sister used to make candles and soap, and sell them for daft money on Egay. Fancy candles - fill a mould of your choice with ice chips, then pour in coloured wax. Looks great, burns terribly, but sells well.
You don't really need candles if you have any sort of fuel supply - kerosene, parrafin or diesel work fine, and if people who are "sensitive" complain that it's giving them a migraine - blow it out, let them be "sensitive" in the dark.

I've picked up boxes of "survival candles" at the dollar store. Seems like they had 8 or so 6 inch X 3/4" candles to a box for a dollar. You might check out a dollar store in your area.

I have kept a stash of these for my entire adult life.

'Course, I'm showing my age, here,

But they have come in handy many times.

Got lucky last weekend, found a yard sale and got around 150 or so 12 and 14 inch tapers for $5. He included a candle snuffer too. What a deal! Plus a bunch of assorted votive candles.
