Patterns

Anyone here collect patterns. I am considering getting into them. Educating myself first to figure out a direction, but I may just end up buying what I like.

Anyone have personal pics of patterns they own?

Sorry, Lovemonster. I do not collect patterns, too pricy. There are other coins I'd rather purchase. Like all things, price is dictated by demand. Not sure about the demand for such pieces.

PM RossL he may know a thing or two about patterns.

I don't know if I collect "patterns" or not...I don't know what a "pattern" is.

A pattern coin is a coin produced for the purpose of evaluating a proposed coin design, but which was not approved for general circulation. Generally, these coins are of interest only to collectors of pattern coins. However, pattern coins that are later selected for normal production, such as the United States 1856 Flying Eagle cent, can sometimes become sought after by other coin collectors.

Generally speaking, they are "test" coins....ones that never got approved for circulation. Like the photo I posted. Many patterns I see look great. Like this pattern dime:

Thanks again and good luck on your finds.
