Inventory?

Hi all,
I decided to do an inventory of my gold and silver tonight, to try to work out what kind of financial shape I was in.
Compared to many on this forum I guess I have a fairly small stash. I had thought I had about 50/50 gold/silver (based on cost) but was surprised to discover I had about 70/30 gold/silver. Not exactly a problem as I live in an upstairs apartment with not much safe storage, but curious. I also have slightly less, in total, than I had imagined! And much less silver than I had thought!!!
Anyone else had this experience, or does everyone know EXACTLY what they have??
Have one of you stolen my silver???

It is not surprising that you find your ratio different than expected if you are going by dollar value. Gold has gone up in total dollars per ounce quite a bit more than silver. So if you've had it a while that would explain why it's not as you found it on your last inventory.

To balance it out just buy more silver till you get to the ratio you prefer. Personally I use a check register and track mine like it was a checking account. Keeping track of purchase info including date, amount purchased and amount paid per ounce and total.

Additions are a deposit and removal for sale or trade are withdrawals. Again noting all pertinent info. Use separate accounts for each component you track, you can then just multiply the amount by the current ounce price to get a thumbnail sketch of the value and ratio. This takes up little space and is really handy come tax time.

Feeling the amount you have being less than expected is a common reaction, especially when prices are trending up. In my case it is subconscious greed I'm sure. Always thought it would be enough if I could sit on one side of a giant balance scale and when my treasure was stacked on the other side I would rise quickly into the air and the PM side would hit the floor with a thud.

Think I need to go on a serious diet for that to ever happen.

Ah, it's good to be Ponce! The rest of us, all got to start somewhere. It took me better than 25 years to get the houses and cars paid for then be debt free. After that I felt I could start on the saving and preparing stuff. Got off to a really bad start financially. But came out of it just in time I think.

Hat's off to you the older and wiser one.

Sturdly? I am very happy that your house and cars are paid in full and now you are at the same place that I am at.To tell you the truth I am not "wise" but lucky, what makes me "rich" (if you want to call it that) is the fact that I know how much money I can waste and how much money I have to hang on to.One thing that I did was to find a place where my outgoing money would be in the least possible ammount and at this time not counting gasoline and food it comes to $2,850 per year for insurance (house and car) tax for the home, computer, Dish network, phone, power and a couple more of small items.Part of my plan was......some of you won't like this......NO KIDS.One rule that I have is that if I don't have it then I don't spend it, the last thing that I bought with payments was a used Toy SUV four wheel drive for winter driving and also to bolster my credit rating, I believe that the numbers are now around 835-838 and as you know it goes only to 850.Not bad for a dumb Cuban refugee with a 10th grade education LOLLLL.You know guys? some of you may think that I am talking to much about what I have in order to face what is to come but I am thinkin that if some of you can learn something from what I am doing then it is ok.....like today, I got 1,000 linear feet of wood plus 25 sacks of ready mix cement, the wood went under my patio floor and the cement I place each sack inside of double trash bags in order to bne sure that it stays dry.My VA Dr. who is moving in with me when the doodoo hits the fan is now collecting medical equipment to bring over for storage, he saw my medical inventory and told me "Ponce? I don't thin that I have to bring to much" hahahahahahhahaah, main thing will be prescription drugs.

I went the no kids route myself ( me = bad genes), good thing too, still have to raise my parents at this point. Learned a lot from your posts It costs about 4 or 5 times that $2850 a year in town. Heck I almost pay that just in property tax each year now.

I choose to stay here as I have some health issues and want to keep my job/medical insurance plus access to Doctors as long as possible. Have a fall back position staked out should it come to leaving and a traveling "start up kit" of supplies and tools etc.

Final fall back position, rent the houses and live in the car. Should be able to squeeze the last drop of value out of the PM stash that way.

No, I bought everything in the last year, so I pretty much used the buying prices as I wanted to record them anyway. I think it is because silver is so greater in volume that it is easy to think you have more than you do ...

I don't have any of yours, but i did manage to get all mine that i have into a nice secured storage area last week. There is this art storage in LA area where you can store .. well, .. Art.. controled weather conditions, tall walls. I just got a small safe. Not too pricey. I am storing a sealed painting for my friend and i pay a fraction of his fee cause i am the one to auction it for him should he want to. Some russian emigrant artist. Better than keeping it at home. I could go and store it at my parents house as that is remote, but as i do not have all that much spliting it makes not a whole lotta sense.
