Ducats?
Does anyone know anything about these 1 and 4 ducat "1915-dated small gold coins...? They supposely weigh in at 0.1106oz. each. I bought ten of them off EBay for 3% over spot last week. Apparently, they are an "official restrike" by the Austrian mint. Anyone have experience buying or selling these?

Re: Ducats?
when I was a kid, I bought a four ducat coin for seventy-something dollars. It was the most beautiful thing in the world to me.
(My parents thought it was a strange way to "invest" my money, and I never could explain to them why they should buy gold. Nor could I get them to understand the true cause of inflation. Nobody listens to a ten-year old...) I sold it a couple years later for more than double, and the coin dealer knew exactly what it was and was happy to give me green bills for it. (I sold because I really, really wanted to buy darkroom equipment.) I think that your average Joe would have no idea what a 1 or 4 ducat coin is, or what it is worth, but neither does he know a whole or fractional American Gold Eagle either. So I would not worry too much about that angle. Dealers will recognise them, and the rest of us can look up the gold content if we are interested in buying or trading. It sounds like you got a nice deal. Enjoy your beatiful coins! |
Re: Ducats?
I sniped some for $630/oz during the last dip and swapped them for some Maples. They can go for a nice premium on eBay if one uses a high reserve.

Re: Ducats?
Hi again...I got these from goldbergcoin...any of you dealt with this seller before? He has an excellent record and over 9,000 (+) transaction history so I do not doubt that all the stuff I've bought from them is genuine.

Re: Ducats?
Silver Gorilla, "proof like" is not too important - they're all restrikes and all mine are in similar condition to the one pictured. $74, with postage, is about spot price @$710/oz. but why spend so much on postage on ONE coin?
